For as long as we remember people have been trying to push the limits and achieve success in sports worldwide. Snowboarders and Skiers have been prime example of this behavior which makes for some great video and also a amazing story once they make their way down the mountain. However, some forget the hazards and are blind-sided by devastation's such as avalanches that claim about one hundred and fifty lives per year. There are many factors that go into an avalanches; including weather, temperature, wind direction, snow-pack conditions and more.. but the key to escaping is being ready before you hit the mountain. Avalanches will kill you in two main ways. You can go for the ride and endure fatal trauma with rocks and trees or suffocate once the snow falls over you.
Remember these tips below and prep yourself prior to your trip. - Fasten all clothing to keep snow out -If you get caught under the snow try to make an air pocket to breathe. -Always remember to turn on your Avalanche Beacon. -If your skiing in a group , make sure everyone is aware of the procedure during an avalanche.
